After a blown engine forced him out of the race and the championship lead at the British GP, reining champion Marc Marquez is ready to take back the top spot. Currently sitting nine points out of first place behind Andrea Dovizioso, Marquez cited his consistency this year before the DNF at Silverstone as a reason he is confident that he can take the fight to Dovizioso.
“We’ll try and have a great weekend in Misano, putting the last race behind us,” Marquez said via MotoGP.com. “The important thing is that lately we’ve been competitive at all kinds of tracks, so now we go to Misano, which has a twisty, tight layout, with the same approach and mentality that have worked very well for us so far. We’ll look to be as strong as possible, not with victory as the only target but ready to fight for it if we have the opportunity to do so. We’ll work to get the best result possible. We had a positive test there in August, so we’ll go there ready to start well beginning on Friday morning.”
The top five riders are all within 35 points of each other. Unfortunately, Valentino Rossi, currently in fourth place, will miss at least two races after injuring his leg, effectively ending his hopes at an eighth championship. However, the other four riders all have hope with six races left.
With only 13 points separating three different makes in the top three, the end to this season is sure to be thrilling.
