Sato and Rahal are back together again.

2017 Indianapolis 500 winner Takuma Sato made it official this week that he has signed to drive for Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing next season. This after spending just one year with Andretti Autosport.

"I'm excited about having Taku back with us," Bobby Rahal said and reported by The Oklahoman. "I have such admiration for his spirit and how he approaches everything and was so happy for him when he won the Indy 500 this year. The chance to bring him back to the team was too good to pass up."

Speculation had been strong that Sato would jump rides if Andretti Autosport moved from Honda to Chevrolet. Sato has a strong relationship with Honda and wanted to secure a ride that stayed with the manufacturer. In the end, Andretti re-signed with Honda, but it was already too late to keep Sato.

"I am extremely happy to be back with Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing," Sato tells Autoweek.com.  "Bobby, Dave and Mike have always been very supportive of me.  The team has been ultra-competitive the past few seasons. I can't wait to be a part of it in 2018.  I think we can achieve some great things together."

Takuma Sato drove for Rahal in 2012 where he started 15 races and had 5 top ten finishes. As a career, Sato has 135 IndyCar starts since his rookie season of 2010. Prior to IndyCar, Sato raced Formula 1 from 2002-2008.

Zach Veach will take Sato's ride at Andretti.
