Penske just got stronger by taking a champion driver from another team

Few racing teams were as dominant in IMSA's 2017 season as Wayne Taylor Racing, thanks in part to the dynamic duo of brother drivers Ricky and Jordan Taylor racing for their dad. That's changing for 2018.

Team Penske and owner Roger Penske announced the elder Taylor, 27-year-old Ricky, is joining his new Acura Team Penske for next season to drive alongside another new addition, IndyCar legend Helio Castroneves. Taylor is the reigning IMSA prototype champion.

"Adding a champion sports car driver in Ricky will help our team grow and develop," said Roger Penske as reported by The Drive.com. "Ricky had a phenomenal season in 2017. He brings a great deal of sports car experience and his knowledge of the cars, the race tracks and the series overall will be a big benefit to our team."

Roger Penske has built a stable of proven thoroughbreds to man Acura's reintroduction to sportscar racing. In addition to Castroneves, he's got Graham Rahal, Simon Pagenaud, Juan Pablo Montoya and Dane Cameron.

"Having that experience, along with the winning pedigree of Helio, Juan and Dane, provides a great platform as we launch the Acura Team Penske program next season," said Penske. "When you add Simon and Graham for the endurances races, I feel like we have a strong lineup for Daytona and Sebring."

Strong might be an understatement.
