Ford will have the oldest model of car this season in NASCAR, but the company is preparing to make a change to its next stock car for the Cup Series.
The Ford Fusion is a step behind the Toyota Camry and the new Chevy Camaro SS, and some are predicting the manufacturer could ditch the Fusion for the Mustang in the future.
But NASCAR analyst Mike Reader of the Charlotte Observer had an even more intriguing and off-the-wall proposition. He wrote about how Ford's most popular selling vehicles are trucks and SUVs, and he mentioned one model that the company is bringing back in the near future: the Bronco.

Now, the idea of the Bronco racing in the Cup Series is a bit farfetched, but Reader thinks it could work as long as Ford was willing to make a few changes to the old Bronco.
"So, imagine, Keselowski making left turns in a 'Ford Bronco' - the iconic SUV that once took countless numbers of outdoorsmen off-road but also made history on Los Angeles freeways is coming back in 2020," Reader said.
"Is it enough if only the front end of the NASCAR vehicle looked like the dealership model? Is anyone really going to be upset if it doesn't seat seven people and feature a trailer hitch?"
As Reader alluded to, the Bronco became a household name thanks to O.J. Simpson in the 1990s, but they're bringing it back in 2019. It would likely take a lot of amending for it to be capable of racing in the Cup Series, so it's much more likely that Ford changes to Mustang or stays with the Fusion.
Still, it's an interesting idea, and it would be cool to see a Bronco on the racetrack.
