Overshadowed by the ensuing Ambulance-related chaos was the incident that brought out the yellow flag in the first place. After trading bumps throughout the race, Austin Dillon and Danica Patrick kicked off a feud the old fashioned way. Dillon, not happy about being bumped out of the way earlier in the race, ended up on Patrick's rear quarter panel and executed a textbook pit maneuver to spin her out, which brought out the caution.
Via NASCAR.com, Danica mentioned in an interview with ESPN that she was adding Dillon to her "Payback list" after the incident. In response to her comments, Dillon said:
"Well, that's good to know. I'm glad she's worried about me, but I'll talk to her at some point. I'm sure we'll be OK. She could've retaliated at Richmond. I pulled right in front of her to allow her to do it, but nothing happened. I was ready to get out of the Richmond race. We sucked so bad. I was like, 'Man, just take me out if you want.' But she didn't do it, so I didn't think she was that mad."
The feud has plenty of reasons to be squashed, and Dillon has the most incentive to shut it down ASAP. He will be fighting for the championship after qualifying for NASCAR's playoffs, whereas Patrick is not only out of the playoffs, but also has no car for next year, sparking rumors that she could walk away from the sport altogether. It is easy to see why Austin might want this to be settled off the track.
