Dale Earnhardt Jr. finished 23rd at Bristol, and unless he wins in the next two races, he will miss the playoffs in his final season in the NASCAR Cup Series.

Earnhardt remained at 22nd in the points following the race, and his average finish this season is 21.7. Earnhardt has a passionate fanbase, and his fans have been quick to blame crew chief Greg Ives for Earnhardt's struggles.

After Saturday night's race, Earnhardt defended Ives on Twitter.

Earnhardt hasn't had a good season, and it's definitely not what his fans had in mind for his final season in the sport.

He still has a chance to shock the racing world and make the playoffs with a win in the last two races, but based on how he has raced this season, Earnhardt winning a race would be a very unlikely outcome.
