For the last few seasons, the NASCAR Cup Series has only had three manufacturers in Chevrolet, Ford and Toyota. The last time the sport had four manufacturers was in 2012, but Dodge couldn't reach a deal to return for the 2013.

So, NASCAR has continued with three manufacturers, but Brad Keselowski believes it is imperative that the sport adds another manufacturer as soon as possible. During an appearance on FOX, Keselowski said a fourth manufacturer would increase the competition levels, add funding to teams and add to the overall fan experience.

"I would say that manufacturers are critical to the racing you see on the racetrack each and every weekend," Keselowski said.

"I'm going to go ahead and make a bold statement right now. Manufacturers and specifically adding another manufacturer is the most important thing that we could do to this sport right now. Because manufacturers are the high tides that raise all ships."

Keselowski's teammate, Joey Logano, shared a similar sentiment earlier, and he said the competition is healthy for the sport.

Dodge could possibly return to the sport in the future, and NASCAR officials would likely turn to them before any other company given their history.

Toyota was the latest addition to the NASCAR Cup Series, and they have seven wins this season. Chevy leads with nine wins, and Ford has eight wins this season.
