Honda, Volvo, and Lincoln come out as the winners of the 2018 North American Car and Truck of the year award. The results were announced at the Detroit Autoshow, and the Accord, XC60, and Navigator took home the gold.

Car of the year went to the Honda Accord, and in its 10th generation is looking sleeker and sportier than ever. The family favorite was up against fierce competition from the hot new Kia Stinger and the Toyota Camry. The Accord stood out with its larger interior, well-appointed base trim levels and devilish good looks. Aaron Gold of AutomobileMag said:

"What you have is not only the most innovative Accord in years but the most compelling car on the midsize sedan market. Other manufacturers may be giving lip service to the segment, but Honda is putting its money where its mouth is. I'll be amazed if the all-new Accord doesn't turn out to be an extraordinarily strong seller."

The coveted SUV of the year award went to the popular Volvo XC60. The redesigned mid-size SUV looks better than ever and offers many high-tech safety features and a stunning interior. Swedish design is written all over this SUV, and it even features interior trim made from salvaged driftwood. Kirk Bell, NACTOY juror, and freelance auto writer said:

"Like the XC90, the XC60 offers Volvo's distinct brand of luxury, and it may even be more appealing than its bigger brother. The ride is exemplary, and when smartly equipped, it is a fine value."

Truck of the year did not go to a pickup but rather a full-size SUV in the Lincoln Navigator. The gigantic luxury yacht has been forgotten over the years, and most don't remember it was the first full-size luxury SUV. With its bold new styling and 8,700 lb tow capacity, the Navigator is sure to stand out on any road. Base price is $72,000 and under the hood sits a 3.5 liter twin-turbo V6 that pushes 450 horsepower. Daily News Autos' own Ron Sessions, a juror for the annual awards said:

"With its design more aligned with the Continental, the Navigator becomes an even more important image - and the profit-maker for Lincoln."
