Winter weather has crippled several parts of the country. Whether it's record cold or record snow, this winter has announced itself with a vengeance.

That was obvious in Muskegon (MI) Township, located northwest of Grand Rapids. A 40-car pileup shut down U.S. 31 for hours. It all started innocently enough -- a car spun out of control on the ice-covered highway, according to WOOD-TV. But from there, all hell broke loose. Cars slammed into one another, some ended up in ditches, and it took several tow trucks to help clean up the mess.

Luckily, there were no serous injuries.
