Ford has taken another step in the evolution of the police car.

The Ford Police Responder Hybrid Sedan is the first pursuit-rated hybrid car in America, as noted in this CNN video. So now, cops can catch crooks more efficiently since the car gets an estimated 38 mpg.

Ford, in its own video, says the 2.0-liter, I-4 gas motor, paired with a 1.4 kilowatt lithium ion battery can save thousands in fuel costs.

The cars will debut in Los Angeles and New York.
