Kia has recalled 340,000 Souls due to a very serious problem.

This is the second time Kia has recalled the small SUV; this time it's because the fix from the last recall didn't quite stick. A report from the National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration pointed out that the steering wheel could just stop working:

"If the pinion gear separates. steering will be lost, increasing the risk of a crash."

Yeah, loss of steering certainly does increase the chances of an accident. Your steering wheel is one of the more vital parts of the driving process. According to Jalopnik, Kia hasn't been made aware of any injuries or fatalities related to the defect, but still, it's early in the game.

The Souls affected were made between July 21, 2013 and Sept. 30, 2015, so if you have a Kia Soul in the affected range, it's probably time to take it in to be checked out.
