Koenigsegg’s philosophy is similar to many hyper- and supercar manufacturers’ philosophy, that the technology developed for these high performance vehicles can trickle down into production model cars for the benefit of all. With their own proprietary software, Koegnigsegg’s sister company Freevalve has created an engine which removes the camshaft from the valve timing equation and instead fires the valves according to the computer system, allow for much more variations in horsepower, performance, fuel economy, and also allows them to cut some serious weight and excess chambers from the engine block itself. Koenigsegg is currently in the process of modifying existing combustion engines to work with their tech through a Chinese auto manufacturer, in the hopes that Freevalve can be used for many more engines across the globe.
