One of the most well-known rivalries in automotive history is definitely the Chevrolet Camaro versus the Ford Mustang. These two pony cars have been duking it out for decades, and it never gets old. You can almost always bet that whenever one car gets significant upgrades, the other will soon top it. In the end, whether you prefer the Ford or the Chevy, everyone wins. If you're a fan of epic automotive match-ups, that is.
In this awesome retro throwback comparison, we see a 1998 Ford Mustang Cobra vs. a 1998 Chevrolet Camaro SS. The host from MotorWeek narrates a competition that includes a quarter mile race and a timed road course lap as well as opinions on interior quality and everyday usability.

The drag race surprisingly ends with a victory for the Mustang as the Camaro had a tough time putting down its 320 horsepower and 345 lb-ft of torque. On the road course, the Mustang's dated Fox body platform shows its age with the Camaro clocking in two seconds faster. It didn't help that the Cobra only has 305 horsepower and 300 lb-ft of torque. This power is also available much higher in the RPM range, making it slower when coming out of the turns.
Styling and interior is all pretty subjective, but MotorWeek thought the Mustang was a lot more user friendly and would make a better daily driver. The Camaro, on the other handm was more flashy and would appeal to a younger crowd.
Watching this nearly 20-year-old review definitely brings back some memories. It makes you really appreciate the crazy numbers Ford and Chevy are getting out of their current cars. Now, if only they could bring back the Pontiac Trans Am WS6 to kick both of their butts, we'd be in business.
